Threat type: Surveillance & counter-intel. If you think you're alone in Downtown or Bellevue, you've already burned your op. Renraku and Lone Star maintain predictive drone grids and facial recognition arrays that can track a runner through three changes of gear. Master sightline breaking, opt-out transit corridors, and proper dead-drop etiquette before you step out of the shadows.

Matrix security & cold deck survival

Threat type: Cyber warfare. Never jack into an unknown port without an analog kill switch. Black IC doesn't give warnings—it turns your neocortex into slag. Keep your persona stealth mode, check for sings of a trace every twelve seconds, and always keep a backup deck loaded with sacrificial spoofing chips.

Arcane shielding & spirit evasion

Threat type: Astral & magical. You can't outrun something that doesn't obey physics. An ex-con's rule of thumb: when the air turns freezing and your hair stands on end, break line of sight with everything immediately. Carry iron shavings, stay close to thick emotional background counts when hiding, and remember that guns don't kill spirits, baseball bats do.
